The short answer
Tellius is a full analytics platform for large companies. Its strength is finding out why a number moved, and sending finished briefings on a schedule.
Doram is a context layer first. It learns what your business means from your data, documents and tools, and every AI you use reads the same approved rules. Doram has its own analyst too, but the shared understanding is the core.
At a glance
| Question | Tellius | Doram |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An analytics platform with an AI analyst, Kaiya | A context layer with its own AI analyst |
| Who builds the model | An AI agent drafts it with you. A person approves it twice. | Doram drafts it. Your team approves what matters. |
| What it reads | Schema, dbt, Snowflake semantic views, documents you give it | Schema, query history, dashboards, docs, Slack, Jira, CRM |
| How the AI gets the number | The AI handles language, an engine handles the math. Not clear who writes the SQL. | The AI picks approved facts. A semantic compiler writes the SQL. |
| Learning from use | Corrections you choose to save | Learns from query history and suggests rules for review |
| Other AI tools | MCP and API | MCP and API |
| Where it runs | Tellius cloud, your cloud, on premises, or Snowflake Marketplace | Doram Cloud, or your own cloud account |
What Tellius does well
- Deep “why” analysis. Root cause, key driver and variance analysis run on a fixed engine, not only on an AI model. Scheduled Missions lock the query, so each run is repeatable.
- A careful model builder. Its agent, Kaiya Architect, drafts the model and checks for common mistakes like double counting before anything is published.
- Reach and choice. Answers go to chat, Slack, Teams, a browser extension, PowerPoint and MCP. It runs in its cloud, yours, on premises or on Snowflake.
Where they differ
Where the rules come from
Kaiya Architect reads your tables, your dbt project and documents such as data dictionaries and PDFs. It drafts the model as YAML, and a person approves the plan and then the result.
As far as its docs show, Tellius does not learn definitions from query history, BI dashboards, Slack, tickets or the CRM. To teach it, an admin saves a learning by hand, or a person saves a correction from a chat.
Doram reads those places. Query history shows which table people really use and which filters every finance query adds. A Jira ticket or a Slack thread often holds the reason behind a rule. Doram turns these into rules, with the evidence, for your team to review.
Setup
Tellius says plainly that the first semantic layer needs its deployment team, and that first value takes four to six weeks.
Doram is built to draft the model on its own from what your company already has. Your team spends its time on the reviews that need a business decision.
How the number is made
Tellius says the AI handles language and its engine handles the math. Its public docs do not say whether the AI writes the SQL text for an everyday chat question.
In Doram, the AI never writes the SQL. It picks approved facts, and the semantic compiler writes the query.
Who should pick which
Pick Tellius if you are a large company that wants root-cause analysis and scheduled briefings, you need on-premises or Snowflake Marketplace, and a guided setup with its team suits you.
Pick Doram if your rules live in queries, documents and tools, you want them found for you with their reasons, and you want every AI in the company to read the same approved rules.
